Sociedad Matemática Polaca

La Sociedad Matemática Polaca ( en polaco : Polskie Towarzystwo Matematyczne ) es la principal sociedad profesional de matemáticos polacos y representa a las matemáticas polacas dentro de la Sociedad Matemática Europea (EMS) y la Unión Matemática Internacional (IMU).

Historia

La sociedad se fundó en Cracovia , Polonia , el 2 de abril de 1919. Originalmente se llamaba Sociedad Matemática de Cracovia, pero el 21 de abril de 1920 cambió su nombre a Sociedad Matemática Polaca. Fue fundada por 16 matemáticos, entre ellos Stanisław Zaremba , Franciszek Leja , Alfred Rosenblatt , Stefan Banach y Otto Nikodym . ^{[ 1 ]}

Desde su fundación, la actividad principal de la sociedad ha sido reunir a matemáticos mediante la organización de congresos y conferencias. La segunda actividad principal es la publicación de sus anales, Annales Societatis Mathematicae Polonae , que constan de:

International Stefan Banach Prize

The International Stefan Banach Prize (Polish: Międzynarodowa Nagroda im. Stefana Banacha) is an annual award presented by the Mathematical Society to mathematicians for best doctoral dissertations in the mathematical sciences.^[3] Its aim is to "promote and financially support the most promising young researchers" in the field of mathematics. It was founded in 2009 and is named in honour of a renowned Polish mathematician Stefan Banach (1892-1945). The laureates of the award also receive a cash prize of zl 25,000 (c.$6,500).
