Scackleton is a village and civil parish in the county of North Yorkshire, England. It is in the Howardian Hills and 2 miles (3.2 km) south-west of Hovingham.

History

The village is mentioned three times in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Scacheldene or Scachelsey in the Bulford hundred. A school was built in the village in 1866, but is no longer in use. A Primitive Methodist church was also erected in 1888, which is also no longer in use.[2]

Governance

The village lies within the Thirsk and Malton UK Parliament constituency. It was part of the Ryedale district between 1974 and 2023. It is now administered by North Yorkshire Council.
