Paquetes

Paks es una pequeña localidad del condado de Tolna , en el sur de Hungría , a orillas del Danubio , a 100  km al sur de Budapest . Paks, antiguo asentamiento agrícola, alberga ahora la única central nuclear húngara , que suministra aproximadamente el 50 % del consumo eléctrico del país.

El asentamiento ya estaba habitado en la antigüedad. Desempeñó un papel importante durante la época del Imperio Otomano y durante la Guerra de Independencia de Rákóczi .

Las iglesias calvinista y luterana fueron construidas en 1775 y 1884, respectivamente.

En el siglo XIX, se construyeron varias mansiones en el centro del casco antiguo, como las de Szent István Tér, la plaza principal de la ciudad. La iglesia católica del Sagrado Corazón , de tres naves y estilo basilical , fue consagrada en 1901. En la pared de la mansión barroca Szeniczey hay una placa en memoria de Ferenc Deák , «el Sabio del País». El Museo de la Ciudad se encuentra en la antigua mansión Cseh-Vigyázó.

En el siglo XIX se encontró un tesoro de joyas de oro de la Edad de Bronce entre Paks y Dunaföldvár , en la margen derecha del Danubio . El tesoro se encuentra actualmente en las colecciones del Museo Británico . ^{[ 1 ]}

The Catholic Holy Spirit church, built according to the design of Imre Makovecz is considered to be an outstanding work of 20th-century architecture. There is a hundred-year-old chestnut alley lining the walkway on the Danube River bank. The town hosts the Spring Festival at Whitsuntide and the International Festival of Blues, Jazz, Rock and Gastronomy.

In the final stages of the Second World War, Soviet troops occupied the town at great cost in the Budapest Offensive. This was followed by four decades of communist rule. Meanwhile, it was famous for its cannery, wine and fish soup.

The Paks Nuclear Power Plant was built in the town in the 1980s, the final decade of Soviet rule within the country.

Paks's climate is classified as oceanic climate (KöppenCfb) closely bordering on a humid subtropical climate (KöppenCfa). The annual average temperature is 11.1 °C (52.0 °F), the hottest month in July is 21.9 °C (71.4 °F), and the coldest month is 0.1 °C (32.2 °F) in January. The annual precipitation is 603.5 millimetres (23.76 in), of which July is the wettest with 68.5 millimetres (2.70 in), while January is the driest with only 33.4 millimetres (1.31 in). The extreme temperature throughout the year ranged from −23.3 °C (−9.9 °F) on 25 December 2001 to 40.6 °C (105.1 °F) on 20 July 2007.

Paksi FC and Atomerőmű SE, a football club and basketball club, respectively are based in Paks.
