The Complete Peerage (título completo: The Complete Peerage of England , Scotland , Ireland , Great Britain , and the United Kingdom Extant, Extinct, or Dormant ); primera edición de George Edward Cokayne , Clarenceux King of Arms ; 2.ª edición revisada por Vicary Gibbs et al. ; 3.ª edición en preparación) es una obra exhaustiva sobre la aristocracia titulada de las Islas Británicas .

Historia

La obra The Complete Peerage fue publicada por primera vez en ocho volúmenes entre 1887 y 1898 por George Edward Cokayne (GEC).

Esta versión fue efectivamente reemplazada por una nueva edición ampliada entre 1910 y 1959, editada sucesivamente por Vicary Gibbs (sobrino de Cokayne), HA (Herbert Arthur [ 1 ] ) Doubleday, Duncan Warrand, Lord Howard de Walden , Geoffrey H. White y RS Lea. La edición revisada, publicada por St Catherine Press Limited, constaba de doce volúmenes, el duodécimo publicado en dos partes. [ 2 ]

El volumen trece se publicó en 1940, no como parte de la secuencia alfabética, sino como un suplemento que abarcaba las creaciones y ascensos dentro de la nobleza entre 1900 y 1938. La investigadora principal del proyecto fue Ethel Stokes y los cinco volúmenes de 1929 a 1949 reconocen su importante contribución. [ 3 ]

La obra se ha reeditado en diversos formatos, sobre todo por Alan Sutton Publishers, que la redujo a seis volúmenes en un formato fotográfico reducido. Cada página, de menor tamaño, contiene imágenes de cuatro páginas.

Estaba disponible en CD . En el año 2000 apareció una reimpresión en seis volúmenes, junto con el volumen 14, que es un apéndice que corrige la publicación original (1910-1938) y la actualiza brevemente hasta 1995.

Alan Sutton Publishing tiene previsto publicar entre 2025 y 2027 una tercera edición totalmente revisada y modernizada en 18 volúmenes, y en 2027 estará disponible una edición en línea mediante suscripción. [ 4 ]
